spc game

The team played its best game to date earning a well deserved draw against SPC. The most impressive aspect of the contest was the spirit the Chargers displayed in rebounding from a tough game against Jesuit. I was very proud of the team. We got the better of play from the midway point of the first half to the end of the match and had several good opportunities to score. The team defense (esp. the back 4 ) and midfield play were outstanding. We had the momentum and were by far the fresher team at the end of the contest.

Monday 12/6 -- Practice Softball Field 3:15-5

Tuesday 12/7 --Practice Softball Field 3:15-5 Followed by team dinner.

Wednesday 12/8 Game vs ODA at Home 4:00 meet on field 3:15

Thursday 12/9 Game vs Tampa Prep. at Home 5:30 meet on field 4:45

Friday 12/10 No practice scheduled

I apologize for not getting the SPC and Jesuit write ups in on time. I will complete them this weekend for pub. in next issue of E-BYTES

SPC BUS

Buses leave at 4:30. We are scheduled to board 2 buses. Take all belongings off the buses as we will be returning to SPS on a different bus.

Reminder

The agreement signed by players and parents at the beginning of the year clearly states that you must inform the coach in writing (e-mail) if you cannot attend a practice or a game.

Thursday

The practice scheduled for Thurday at 6:00 am in the gym is optional. The later practice scheduled for 3:15 - 5 on the softball field is mandatory. The Thursday team dinner is mandatory.

SPC GAME Notes

The JV Chargers showed improvement in losing a hard fought game to SPC 2-0. The overall team effort was great.

Individual defensive technique was much better than last game. We largely refrained from diving in and played good position defense. SPC was a team that had some good individual players but did not have great teamwork. They became frustrated and more frantic as the game went on.

Along the mid and in the defensive third we showed better foot skills and teamwork.

BUT WE HAVE MANY THINGS TO WORK ON. PRIMARY PROBLEMS FROM THE FIRST TWO GAMES WHICH STILL MUST BE ADDRESSED :

1. We must capitalize on scoring opportunities. We had three golden moments in the last game - balls we possessed directly in front of the goalkeeper- and did not put one ball on frame. We must finish.

2. We did not create enough opportunities in the scoring third. In the last game, the SPC defense was ripe for a ball to the corner, a diagonal pass, or a triangle set to a player running thru. These are all strategies we have practiced (and warm up with before the game ) but did not perform during the game.

In general, we played hard and improved throughout the game. We have several things that we must improve to become a better team. One, we must display better basic foot skills. Two, we must develop better individual defending technique (stop diving in). Finally, we must create passing lanes thru triangulation and off the ball movement. We addressed all of these things during practice. We will continue to work on them throughout the year.

Bus to SPC

The bus to SPC leaves at 3:45 from Shorecrest. The game is at 5:00. Be there!!!!

Parents remember that Shorecrest has a signout procedure for away games. A parent signiture is required after the game if students are not riding back on the bus.

Pack extra food to snack on b/t school dismissal and game time. DO NOT UNDERPERFORM BECAUSE YOU ARE HUNGRY

A few players suggested that JV should have a JV only practice day in the gym. I have talked to Coach D about this and plans are in the works. Look to wake up early and hit the gym in Dec.

Practice shedule for Nov. 8- 12 will be the same as Varsity with the possible exception of Friday. We may hold a basic skills clinic for some select players on Friday. Check the blog Wed. for specific info. Coach D. would like to have a full squad (JV & Varsity) scrimmage Wed.
